43-Inch Giga-Gator Northern Pike Caught Ice Fishing in 12 FOW! (Delta Lake, NY) (2026)

Imagine reeling in a true giant from the icy depths – a fish so substantial it could feed an entire family! That’s exactly what happened to Henadzi Kuzniatsou last week while ice fishing on Delta Lake, near his home in Utica.

It had been a rather quiet day for Henadzi. After four hours on the ice, he’d only managed to land two walleye and a single yellow perch. He was using shiners as bait on a homemade tip-up, fishing in a modest 12 feet of water. So, when the flag on his tip-up suddenly sprung up, he wasn't expecting anything extraordinary.

But whatever was on the other end of his line was putting up a serious fight, unspooling line with such persistence that he soon had almost none left. "I knew it’d be something large!" Henadzi exclaimed. "And there it was! The beauty!"

And what a beauty it was! This magnificent catch, a prodigious northern pike, measured an impressive 43 inches and tipped the scales at nearly 22 pounds. While Henadzi noted it wasn't quite as large as some of the pike he used to catch back in his homeland of Belarus, it was certainly a catch to be proud of. This famously bony fish was substantial enough to provide a feast for Henadzi’s extended family. His wife wasted no time, frying up their share in an iron skillet the very same day.

"The bones are very easy to take out by hand in a fish that large," Henadzi shared, a testament to the practicalities of preparing such a catch. Cheers to Henadzi and his delicious, hand-prepared pike! Za zdorovie, Hena!

But here's where it gets interesting... While a 43-inch pike is undeniably impressive, the world of angling is full of tales of even larger specimens. Do you think this pike was an exceptional catch for Delta Lake, or just a good day on the water? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

And this is the part most people miss... We’re always on the lookout for your amazing catches! If you've got any fantastic ice fishing photos – be it pike, walleye, crappie, or anything else – we want to see them! Just be sure to include a few key details:

  1. The names of anyone in the photo.
  2. Their hometowns.
  3. The type of fish caught.
  4. Where it was caught.
  5. The length and weight, if possible.
  6. The bait that did the trick.

Don't forget to throw in some colorful details – we all love a good fish story! Until then, tight lines, ya’ll!
