In an exciting development for radio listeners in Nebraska, Nebraska Public Media is set to acquire KOOO, known as "101.9 The Keg," which features a Classic Alternative music format. This station, located in La Vista and Omaha, NE, is currently owned by NRG Media.
This acquisition is significant because it allows Nebraska Public Media to expand its reach in Omaha, aligning perfectly with their mission as outlined in the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Act. This act aims to establish a robust statewide network dedicated to educational and public media.
Additionally, it's worth noting that NRG Media is not just stopping at this sale; they are also parting ways with the rest of their Omaha radio cluster, which will be acquired by Usher Media.
Stacey Decker, the CEO and General Manager of Nebraska Public Media, emphasized the organization’s commitment to serving all Nebraskans. She stated, "We believe in a promising future centered around local journalism and reliable voices. Acquiring a station in Omaha is a pivotal step towards achieving our goal of operating a truly statewide media network. We are thrilled to enhance our involvement in the Omaha community by offering radio programming that embodies our dedication to public service and accurately narrates the story of Nebraska."
Once the deal is finalized, listeners can expect a lineup filled with Public News/Talk programming during the day. This will include thorough coverage of both national and international news, alongside localized updates on Omaha news, weather, and other important information. Notably, when the Nebraska Legislature is in session, there will be daily updates to keep citizens informed. In the evenings and overnight hours, KOOO will shift to playing AAA music, catering to diverse musical tastes.
